792 million people in the world have to deal with a mental illness every single day. That is 1 in 10 people globally, that are unhappy with their lives.

Having to battle through this journey with no hope of a cure. JUST band-aide solutions, in a world full of chaos.

15 to 24-year-olds are most likely to develop mental illnesses, as the world is advancing in a very stressful way for our brains to handle. Our youth are the ones being affected the most, and this will dramatically impact the future that we all live in.

Often these illnesses can lead to terrible things in life, such as suicide, drugs & alcohol addiction, self-harm, reckless and impulsive behaviors. What do you think happens when someone displays these self-sabotaging behaviors???

This can impact their work or school performance, it can lead to many relationship problems, and even issues with your overall health, as it can cause sleep deprivation, nutrition issues, and high fatigue as it takes a toll, not only on the brain, on the body.

This simple thing halts one’s life, losing their potential to make a difference in this world. Our next best politicians, advocates, innovators, and CEOs, all gone because of something that we are all predisposed to today.

Everyone wants to have the best, brightest, and most innovative future we can get, without having to deal with the negativity that surrounds us with mental illnesses.

Our solution starts with Lattnem.

We want people to feel free of the constraints set by their minds.

It’s time to kick mental illnesses in the butt and live a long and happy life!

At Lattnem, we are developing new products and innovations to help track, prevent, and treat all types of mental health disorders. By creating products that operate on an AI interface we are able to free your mind of everything, mental illnesses.

Our vision is to create a world where mental illnesses are no longer a problem people have to face. Where no obstacle stops one from reaching their full potential. Where one can control the uncontrollable.

Today at Lattnem, our mission is to have an affordable, widespread cure by tracking, preventing, and treating mental illnesses, to transform millions of lives worldwide. Starting with addiction…

..this complex chronic illness affects the functions of the brain and body.

It manifests through drugs, alcohol, gambling, shopping, and anything that the brain can turn from a like to a NEED.

The most common symptoms of addiction are:

  • Continued use of substances despite the serious known consequences
  • The preoccupation with always using, dealing with the failed attempts to quit. (no control over intense cravings😢)
  • The tolerance built up and withdrawal

To put this into perspective more than 240 million people around the world are dependent on alcohol, more than a billion can not stop smoking, and more than 15 million addicted to drugs, such as heroin, and the numbers keep on going.

Clearly our “solutions” today are not working.

Currently, people use psychotherapy, medication, rehabilitation, and detox to simply try and get better. Only 30% of those who enter and complete rehab become successful in fighting the urges every day, but most people quit 3–6 months after beginning their “treatment”. Those are the odds that we are accepting to be normal these days.

But like… What is the point of a band-aide if we cannot heal the wound?!

This is where Lattnem comes to the rescue.

Before we go into how our first wearable works and the research going on at Lattnem, a better understanding of the behind the scenes of addiction will help😊.

Addiction hijacks your brain😱

The brain’s way of functioning screws itself over, and turns people into addicts! I know… CRAZY!

Addiction is complex, as it hacks its way into multiple parts of the brain. The way it works can be broken down into 3 parts:

  • Pleasure principle
  • Learning and memory of pleasure
  • Tolerance and compulsion to seek pleasure

The brain registers all types of pleasures the same way, through its signature neurotransmitter; the release of dopamine into the nucleus accumbens of the brain, aka the pleasure center. Basically, addiction occurs when the brain reinforces a habit through the pleasure principle. It starts to occur when substances start to provide a shortcut to the brain’s rewards system through powerful surges of dopamine. This rapid sense of satisfaction lays down the memories of pleasure deep into the hippocampus. Then the amygdala area of the brain finishes this off by creating conditional responses through certain stimuli, which is why it is so difficult for addicts to quit.

Important areas of the brain that Lattnem plans to target during its treatment.

The key to the transition from liking to having the need to use a substance is the learning and memory process, once again due to dopamine. Dopamine will interact with glutamate, another neurotransmitter, that takes over reward-related learning. Addiction hits so hard because this system is linked to activities that are needed for human survival with pleasure and reward, such as eating and drinking water. The areas of the brain that involve motivation, memory, and pleasure are often associated with the reward circuits, which are continuously stimulated and overloaded when using addictive substances. This repeated exposure cause nerve cells in the nucleus accumbens and prefrontal cortex in ways that couples the urges of want to need, and drives one to seek out sources of quick pleasure.

After a while, the brain eventually starts to build a tolerance and adapts, making the sought after substances less pleasurable in smaller quantities. This occurs as our brains and receptors are not accustomed to being flooded with neurotransmitters, and results with less/no more dopamine receptors in areas flooded, making dopamine less of an impact on the reward center. Over time, to reach the same “highs” as before, one will seek to indulge in their addictive substance of choice.

One can’t live a joyful life as their brains are rewired to crave pleasure but it takes more to experience it.

This is when the brain’s compulsion towards substances takes over. Just because you can’t produce the same amount of highs, it doesn’t mean that the memory of it disappears. The brain will desire the effects and the need to recreate it, leaving one with no control😪. The hippocampus and the amygdala store information with cues associated with desired substances, that create the intense cravings stimulated when a person encounters them. This is the main reason one relapses and what makes this a life long journey…

“When the frontal cortex isn’t working properly, people can’t make the decision to stop taking the drug — even if they realize the price of taking that drug may be extremely high, and they might lose custody of their children or end up in jail. Nonetheless, they take it.” Dr. Nora Volkow, Director of NIH’s National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Addicts cannot control themselves as their brain structure and function are now rewired differently despite all their efforts to change…this becomes a life long journey. But, what if there is another way? This is where Lattnem comes in.

A brain to AI interface via nanosensors to create our wearable.

Our light and easy to use wearable design, with built-in state of the art nanosensors will keep track of the overall mental states and the hormone level changes in the brain. Targetting and treating areas of the brain correlating with addiction through a built-in machine learning(ML)system. This system will provide real-time data to a patient or physician through our Lattnem App.

There are 3 main parts to our system:

  1. The Wearable: Through wirelessly connected nanosensors that interact with an AI system and administers treatment to areas of the brain affected through electrical impulses.
  2. AI System: It receives input data tracking one’s mental state and analyzes it to administer appropriate personalized treatment to the areas showing any inbalance.
  3. Lattnem App: The wearable is wirelessly connected to an app designed to keep the patient or physician in the loop, to assure everything is getting better.
Data is collected and analyzed through our system where it personalizes treatment in real-time and updates the user through our App.

1. Designing a wearable fit for everyone.

A wearable will be designed to non-invasively target specific areas of the brain that are affected by addiction, such as the nucleus accumbens, hippocampus, and amygdala, through innovative nanosensors and EEG technologies we are currently researching. It is meant to track one’s mental state by analyzing in real-time any serious changes in the hormone, mainly dopamine, levels in areas of the brain.

These nanosensors will be collecting data in real-time and sending it to our AI system wirelessly to be evaluated for personalized treatment. It can administer the appropriate amount of electrical impulses to inhibit dopamine release and activity in areas of the brain that are being targetted, and take away the urges and compulsion one might have towards a substance they are addicted to.

We understand that every human has a different head shape, and through our flexible wearable and AI system, during the general set-up of our product, one’s head can be analyzed for the wearable to adjust and align itself according to every individual’s head shape. Don’t worry about breaking it! We are using graphene to create the frame of the wearable, as it is incredibly light, flexible, abundant, and affordable. Affordability is important as young people are those who are most likely to develop these illnesses.

Currently, at Lattnem, we are innovating to create nanosensors and electrodes that:

  • are wireless and noninvasive that can track and stimulate neurons deep in the brain to administer treatment, in real-time.
  • can stay aligned correctly on the head, while stimulating the right nerves.
  • can administer treatment while a patient is awake without any feeling.
  • are so small that they can be portable and lightweight.

Addiction takes over the brain and rewires it to achieve its own way of self-sabotage. Introducing Lattnem’s first product, MOSES, which is what the world needs right now.

MOSES is our solution to addiction. Our first step towards the bigger picture…all mental illnesses.

In the future, we plan to design a wearable that targets all areas of the brain associated with any mental illnesses. As depression affects similar areas to addiction, with further research, we believe that this can be our next product to be out on the market.

2. Well-trained AI system to administer personalized treatments.

It is next to impossible to personalize treatment for every single patient without the help of AI. At Lattnem, through our Lattnem AI system, we plan to personalize targetted treatment through an ML algorithm, as it will allow us to assess and administer treatment in real-time. It tracks and sends live notifications to the app, keeping the patient in the loop.

This system will reinforce itself through trial and error by training using millions of data sets of different brain scans and studies using our own nanosensors. Then, after building its own algorithm for addiction, we can build a simulator of different patients/scenarios for the algorithm to train on further. Having the simulator be adversarial with the algorithm to train it and become better over time. This is like deep reinforcement learning that is adversarial with a simulator to train against itself until it can provide a personalized treatment.

After all the training and research, this system is meant to collect data live, and output effective treatments back to the sensors, administering the appropriate amount of electrical impulses mean to eradicate the addiction one is facing, and return the brain back to its neutral state. Managing the urges without even noticing it😱.

Nowadays, people with mental illnesses do not receive this deep of a personalized treatment, as the assessments of physicians tend to go off of what the patient tells you, which is not always accurate. Through this product, our AI system can be trained to be even better than your everyday physician as it has access to more information, which can help those at medical institutions with their treatments.

3. Real-time assurance through the Lattnem App

The Lattnem App is meant to keep the patient and their physicians in the loop, to assure that our system is working perfectly. All data collected and history of administration will be tracked on this app.

It will wirelessly send notifications on what is happening in your brain if you one experiences any urges or dopamine rushes and any other changes in one’s mental state.

The data collected from all Lattnem products can be accessed through this free and secure app.

All we want to do is to keep everyone’s minds at peace and have the choice to run their lives the way they want!😄

Lattnem is the Future

We believe in further innovation and ambition at Lattnem. This is why we are researching how to further our products through emerging technologies in the field of artificial intelligence, brain computing interfaces, nanotechnology, and personalized medicine. With Lattnem our vision will become a reality.

Here is our 10-year plan:

  • Year 1: To design and create the right nanosensors for our wearable. Collect all training data of healthy patients, those at different stages of addiction, and those who have relapsed. As well as, find the right model to train our ML system.
  • Year 2: Finalize designs of wearable and ML systems for MOSES. Start developing the App. Start collecting training data for our second product, geared towards those with depression. As well as starting to market to different companies and the public. Teasing our product😮.
  • Year 3: Launch MOSES!!!Continue to collect data and train the ML system for depression wearable. Start the design of new wearable.
  • Year 4: Work on an update to the existing app to add a placeholder for new products (coming soon).
  • Year 5–10: Launch the second product!! To further innovate and tackle each mental illness disorder and maybe a possibility of a universal mental illness wearable.

No one should have their choice of achieving their full potential taken away from them because of something out of their control, like mental illness. At Lattnem we put a halt to this life long journey of struggle and create a new one where you will thrive.

If you were too lazy to read this article, here is what you should take away from our company:

  • We are working on a way to eradicate mental illnesses in the world, starting our journey with addiction.
